Intel has been on track to the new production process for months. This year there will be energy efficient, 45 nm Lynnfield quad-core CPUs and switching to 32 nm is planned for early 2010. An early sample is now supposed to show what Intel's new CPUs are capable of.

In Asia information, that offers some detailed information about the forthcoming processor generation, has been revealed. The known overclocker Coolaler is the first to cause a stir with a running Clarkdale processor. The dual-core sample he uses reaches 3.06 GHz on default, but has also been tested for its overclocking capabilities and went up to 4 GHz on air cooling. Therein the frequency is not the most interesting fact, but the low voltage at which the CPU is said to have reached the high clock speed. Coolaler only needed 0.83 volt to get to the 4 GHz. At this point it has to be noted, that this also could be a bug in the CPU-Z readout since new processors aren't necessarily recognized correctly.

Furthermore the CPU-Z screenshot nevertheless confirms several details of the Clarkdale family. The first of the new processors will have two real cores using SMT to get four threads. The L2 cache is set to 256 Kibyte per core, as common for processors with the Nehalem architecture, while the L3 cache is halved to four MiByte.
