VIA Technologies, Inc today announced the establishment of the VIA platform Solutions Division (VPSD). This new Business Unit further enhances VIA's ability to provide the complete platform solution for all market segments.

VPSD Products
VPSD's first VIA branded products to hit the shelves will be the VIA P4X266 Series, a complete line of mainboards for professional, performance and value market segments based around the acclaimed VIA P4X266 core logic chipset. The VIA P4X266 harnesses high-performance DDR266 SDRAM, providing the most balanced and cost effective platform for Intel¢ç Pentium¢ç 4 processor based PC systems, workstations and servers.

Two such mainboards from VPSD's P4X266 Series include the VIA P4X266 PR22-R and the VIA P4X266 VL33-S. The 478-pin PR22-R mainboard combines support for up to 3GB of high bandwidth DDR266 SDRAM and 400MHz FSB with an array of advanced features such as onboard IDE RAID support and 6-channel audio. The 423-pin VL33-S mainboard provides a cost-effective and scalable solution with onboard AC'97 audio codec and also supports up to 3GB of DDR266 SDRAM.

Looks like VIA is losing support of major first and second line manufacturers in manufacturing P4X266 boards. We definitely hope to see more high quality VIA mainboards, this will drive pricing even further. The next question is, will other mainboard manufacturers use VIA chipset in the future since VIA is now a new competitor ?
