it's the Manager of Bod Nara by Reban MGC in Korea
Dear David, Manager of FAE Section.
It is a great pleasure to have a change to meet you, too.
Let me introduce myself. I work for Reban MGC in Korea as the Manager of Bod Nara (http://www.bodnara.co.kr), the Best MoBo & GrBo Site in Korea.
If my letter is not a disturbance, I want to ask you some questions about your product, whenever we have such inquiries to make.
Korean users are very interested in mainboards, and especially on very specific details of it.
Not too long ago, there has been a great interest raised on one of your product, called XP333/XP333-R among the Korean community.
One of our members has raised an interesting point today, about the chipset that is used in the XP333 series.
1. The chipset designer Acer Labs (ALi) states that ALi MaGiK1 does NOT support DDR333 (PC2700)-type memory, and the member questioned about the problem that may occur from this specification. What are your positions as to ALi's chipset not being able to support PC2700-type memory?
2. It is the problem with Maxtor Fastdrive , Supports ATA-133. The BIOS detects that Maxtor Fastdrive on ATA-133, but In windows, After Installed OS, Installed ALi Integrated Driver, ALi Chipset IDE Utility ,SETDMA.EXE tells me that ATA-100. What is the problem? Is there need any Patch or anything? Which mode is it really working?
Looking in Control Panel ->System->Device Manager->Primary IDE Channel-> Configuration->DMA Mode also indicates that the HDD is working in UltraDMA-5 Mode.
3. The time it takes to POST seems to be too slow compared to other motherboards. Are there any fixes to this phenomenon?
4. The south bridge used in XP333 is M1535D+, and I found a technical documentation about this chip. The document says that this chip supports ATA-100, but in no where I could find anything about ATA133 support. Am I missing something?
The Korean User Community is debating on this subject, and they are demanding the answers to these questions. It will be grateful of you if you can send us the answers as soon as possible.
Thank you for your help, and I¡¯ll look forward to your reply.

Re: it's the Manager of Bod Nara by Reban MGC in Korea
Dear Ryan,
Nice to meet you, and about your question , the answer is below...
1. This is this motherboard's special design. This standard specification is only support DDR200/DDR266. But at this motheroboard have two mode can support to DDR 333. First one it overclocking, When your FSB is from 133 to 166MHz. That mean DDR clock is from 266 to 333. And the other one is by using new BIOS running with CPU 133(266)/ memory 166(266). This is new speification for ALI MAGiK 1 c1 version chipset.
2. Now all application software didn't support to show ATA-133 mode. even ALI IDE Utility and Windows systems. So until now, There still show ATA-100 mode. And you can use some bench mark software to test its speed. It will faster than more ATA-100 harddisk. Now this problem will be wait for Windows service pack to fix this problem.
3. All ALI chipset motherboard its post speed is more longer than Intel or VIA and SIS chipset motherboard. This is true. Becasue ALI's chipset do more hardware check at post time. espacially memory and CPU.
4. This south bridge M1535D+ is a special edition only for IWILL use. Because you can see on this chip. There have Iwill's brand on it. So this special edition southe bridge is add ATA-133 support . It is only for IWILL XP333. So you can't find about this information on ALI web site.
If you still have any question, please let know.. Thanks.
Best Regards,
