최근 AMD에서 새로운 프로세서 제품군을 잇달아 발표하고 있는데
현지시간으로 14일 그러니까 어제 날짜로 그동안 소문으로 들리던 AMD64 dual-core processors를 발표하였다.
이번 발표는 Sempron 프로세서의 발표와 같이 제품이 정식으로
출시되기 전에 해당 제품을 만들고 있으며 언제 출시할것이라고 언급한 것으로 AMD64 dual-core processor 제품군은 2005년
중반까지 서버 시장용으로 먼저 출시한 이후 2005년 후반기에 클라이언트 PC용 제품을 출시할것이라고 한다.
AMD는 파트너 및 고객들의 요구에 맞춰 지난 몇년동안
multi-core processors 를 개발하고 있었다고 하고 있으며 자사의 multi-core processors에 대한 의미를 아래와
같이 크게 4가지로 설명하고 있다. (HardOcp에서 요약한것이다.)
* First to present an x86 dual-core
strategy
* First to announce the completion of an x86 dual-core processor
design for 64-bit computing
* First and only company currently shipping
products for high-performance, simultaneous x86-based 32- and 64-bit
computing
* First to implement Enhanced Virus Protection for x86 processors
(enabled by the upcoming Windows(r) Service Pack 2)
